The Middlesex County Economic Development Authority has launched its new website at middlesexeda.com, providing businesses, entrepreneurs, residents, and prospective investors with a central online resource for economic development information, business support, and county data.
ABOUT THE SITE
The website serves two primary audiences: businesses already operating in Middlesex County and those evaluating it as a location for a new operation or expansion. The site is organized around the questions those audiences most commonly bring to the EDA.
The Why Middlesex section presents the county’s business case: infrastructure, tax structure, broadband access, workforce data, and the geographic advantages of Middlesex’s location along the Rappahannock River and Chesapeake Bay. The site includes a full breakdown of the county’s favorable tax environment, including the absence of a Machinery and Tools tax, which represents a meaningful advantage for manufacturers, marine-industry operators, and agricultural businesses with capital equipment on the books.
The Start a Business section walks through the process of establishing a business in Middlesex County, from initial planning through licensing, location selection, and launch. The EDA uses this section to connect prospective business owners with the specific steps, contacts, and resources relevant to their situation.
The Resources section consolidates the funding tools, programs, and business support available to Middlesex County businesses. This includes EDA grant programs, regional and state funding opportunities, local financing options through Rappahannock National Bank and Bay Banks of Virginia, and a current listing of available commercial and industrial properties in the county.
The Tourism and Visitor Economy section outlines the county’s tourism economy and the EDA’s role in growing it. This includes data on the county’s tourism performance, an overview of the Explore Middlesex initiative and its digital platforms, and the county’s partnership with Virginia’s River Realm, the regional tourism cooperative serving the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck.
News and Updates is the EDA’s ongoing record of grants, programs, business spotlights, and initiatives. The section currently includes the Rising Tide video series, a collection of short-form profiles featuring entrepreneurs and business owners from across Middlesex County, along with recent grant awards and economic development news.
“The EDA exists to serve the local business community, and that means staying connected and keeping people informed. This site is how we do that going forward. It’s where we’ll share news, announce programs, recognize what local businesses are accomplishing, and make sure the resources we provide are easy to find,” said Trent Funkhouser, Executive Director of the Middlesex County Economic Development Authority.
The site also includes an About page describing the EDA’s structure, board, and mission, and a Contact page where businesses, residents, and media can reach EDA staff directly.
